Browns Peak 8-13-06 (9 images)

I hiked the 7657 feet Browns Peak today. It the highest point in Maricopa County and the northern most of the Four Peaks. It is the first in my quest to hike all 15 Arizona county high points. The trail is about 5 miles roundtrip. The last 1/2 mile or so is pretty gnarly. It climbs up a very steep and loose "crack" in the side of the peak. On the way back down I was going to do the Amethyst Mine trail, which loops around the base of the Four Peaks and passes the only active Amethyst mine in North America, but a storm was moving in and I didn't feel like getting rained on.
