Navajo Dam 2-16-07 (38 images)

Myself and a couple friends decided to head up to the San Juan river in northwestern New Mexico for some fly fishing. It is one of the most popular trout fisheries in the western US. The town of Navajo Dam is located a couple miles downstream from the reservoir. It is a long ass drive out there (about 8 hours), but well worth it. On Saturday we decided to pay for a guided drift boat, and Sunday we rented waders. The most popular area of the river (Texas Hole) was pretty crowded for the middle of February. The locals were also telling us that the lake had "turned over", which means that all the sediment on the bottom gets stirred up, making the water not as clear and the fishing not as good. It was still a blast though. After calling it quits on Sunday afternoon, we all headed over to a winery we had passed on the way into town. It was pretty sweet. It was a 40 acre ranch with all kinds of animals and interesting stuff scattered all over the place. This was my first visit to Navajo Dam, and I think I can safely say it won't be my last.
