This weekend Bob, Lance and I went down to Tucson for a little wheel'n. I have never run any of the trails down there in the Rincon’s or Catalina’s. Well, I take that back, I have been up the Catalina Highway up to Mt. Lemon, but that's it. Lance had run Chivo Falls and Charouleau Gap, and Bob had run the gap as well. We got down there Saturday morning and hit Chivo Falls. That took longer than expected do to some wrong turns. After Chivo we headed over to Chimney Rock. The coolest part of Chimney Rock was the play area at the base of Chimney Rock itself. The rest of the trail is pretty mild and just zig-zags washes. After finishing Chimney Rock we headed back into Tucson for a bite to eat. We wanted to camp somewhere near the beginning of Charouleau Gap so we could wake up in the morning and get an early start. Jake (Tacominator) had recommended a nice campsite about 2 or 3 miles into the trail. It overlooked Catalina and Oro Valley. It was an awesome view. Thanks Jake! We didn't set up camp until after 11:00pm. The next morning we ate a little breakfast, then shoved off. Charouleau Gap was a pretty cool trail. The most challenging obstacle is "The Step". Bob was the first to give it a whirl. His first line didn't work out to well. He backed up, picked a different line, and up he went. I tried it next. I was pretty much taking the same line as Bob, but was off by about 6 inches. I had to back up to get about 6 inches more passenger... but my tow hitch and bumper were completely buried in the dirt, and I couldn't move. I admitted defeat and got strapped up. Time to ditch the hitch and get a new rear bumper.
